Seven years ago, I bought a Steelcase Leap chair for my office. I was having some back problems and it seemed like a good investment in my health.
This was not a trivial choice, since, at the time, I could buy a desk chair at an office supply store for $100. My chair cost more than 10x that.
Without question, it is the best desk chair I have ever owned and I am sure it helped save my back. So, imagine my dismay when it broke a couple of weeks ago and was stuck in its lowest position, making it unusable.
I called Steelcase customer service and they told me to call my local dealer, Work Center in Torrington, Conn. I spoke to the folks at Work Center and they informed me that yes, my chair was still covered under Steelcase's 10 year warranty. They ordered the parts and came down today and installed them, free of charge. It could not have been easier for me.
These days, we throw away everything from cell phones to TV sets. It is often cheaper to buy new items than to repair old ones. That was not the case here, but Steelcase stood by its product and had a dealer with high standards to deliver great customer service.
Rest assured, the next time I need anything for an office or someone asks me for a recommendation, I will gladly mention Steelcase and Work Center. This is how it is supposed to be.
