Louis Vuitton: The worst commercial EVER
So, there I am this morning watching CNBC, enjoying my morning helping of economic Armageddon with my bowl of cereal, when they cut to commercial.
I sort of half-watch, half-listen to CNBC while reading the morning papers and stuffing my face, so I was annoyed by a commercial with ethereal, Enya-like music, but no voice. So, now I have to look up to see what it is.
I watch, and I watch, and I watch to see a lame procession of meaningless platitudes about "Life is a journey" and "Journeys are a process" and who-knows-what-else-but-can-you-please-tell-me-what-the-f**k-I-am-watching-because-my-Cheerios-are-getting-soggy, all superimposed on disconnected images of people swimming, walking on a dirt road and picking up hookers on 8th Avenue (at least that's what it looked like to me.)
Finally, at the end, they tell me it is for Louis Vuitton.
It struck me a bit odd that Louis would be touting its products on CNBC:
"Hey, America! Your 401K is worth half what it was six months ago, you'll be working until you are 80 (if you are lucky enough to get a job), your kids are going to state college rather than Harvard and your great-grandchildren are on the hook for about seven bazillion dollars in bailout money for Wall Street. Now get out there and pay $6,943 for a leather coin purse and matching key fob.
Happy F-ing Holidays from Louis Vuitton!"
I agree 100% with your comments on the LV ad... that being said, I was always charmed by this OTHER LV ad, made for the Japanese market, I believe the artwork is Murakami:

If you've ever been to Tokyo, you will recognize the opening "shots" are the sidewalk outside the LV store on Omotesando. Not that I have ever gone in it! (grin)

Wow, that's so bad. No necessarily the commercial itself, but the entire concept as an ad for Louis Vuitton. I would have expected it to be a large organization of artists or Hollywood folks PR-ing for a charity, or something more directly related to travel, or maybe even a church with a big advertising budget. It's so far off target, their arrow went into the woods and killed a squirrel. I wonder how much money they spent for it?
